BROOKLYN brownstone

The owner of this shady, Carroll Gardens brownstone garden is an interior designer.  I wanted to create a green space that reflected the unique aesthetic outlook of the interior of her home.  A shady presence called for a robust palette of chartreuse and white plants.  At the rear of the property, stands a wrought iron, 1920’s antique Pagoda style pergola that gives privacy and a sense of enclosure to a sunken hot tub.  Like most brownstone gardens, the space is long and corridor-like, so to open it up, we installed a patio of irregular bluestone slabs interplanted with Lysimachia, and Ajuga.  The result is a really beautiful, oriental carpet of patterns and textures.
